This project activity (1) identifies a representative cross-sectional range of available GPCs and laptops and measure their baseline energy performance, (2) determines the representative gaming laptops and measure their baseline energy performance, (3) determines resulting typical median market GPCs (DIY or out-of-the box complete), measure the baseline energy performance, and (4) develops a set of energy efficiency measures (hardware, firmware, and software) to be implemented on each testing GPC and gaming laptop system and measure the resulting energy performance change in order to inform potential technical savings. The focus is on gaming on local platforms with locally-hosted applications. Network and server-side workloads will be the subject of future work.
